Timothy Sulser


Timothy M. Sulser is an experienced senior oil and gas executive and change agent with a track record of managing complex organizations and leading multidisciplinary teams. He has more than 20 years of experience in strategy development, asset and technology valuation, deal negotiation, acquisition & divestiture, and capital markets and private equity funding.

Prior to re-joining SDG in 2021, Sulser was chief corporate development and strategy officer at Whiting Petroleum Corporation, where he was responsible for growth strategy including corporate M&A, capital allocation, private capital raising, and asset acquisition and divestment. He led the business development, capital planning, corporate reserves, exploration, and IT organizations. He has held other senior positions in industry, including founder, president, and CEO of Salt Creek Oil and Gas, where he achieved three-year 1.55-times return on equity and a 32% rate of return. As interim CEO, he led Cub Creek Energy through a turnaround and executive leadership change and he built a market-leading practice for Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. investment bank in Denver.

Sulser started his career at Marathon Oil, then joined SDG in 2004 where he managed strategy development projects for major international and large US independent E&P companies.

Sulser holds an MS degree in operations research with an emphasis in financial engineering from Columbia University and a BS degree in petroleum engineering from Montana Tech of the University of Montana.
