Steven Tani
SDG FELLOW
Dr. Steven Tani, SDG Fellow and member of the board of directors, is an experienced professional in decision and risk analysis. Since joining Strategic Decisions Group in 1993, he has assisted a wide variety of clients in research & development portfolio management, new business entry strategy, overseas capital investment decisions, decision analysis, and new product planning. His clients have included governmental organizations as well as companies in the pharmaceutical, heavy industrial equipment, electric power generation, timber, petrochemicals, and office equipment industries.
In 2004, Dr. Tani was named the first SDG Fellow, a title created to distinguish those whose extraordinary contributions to decision analysis and other analytic disciplines allow the firm to maintain its competitive advantage.
He has led many seminars and workshops in decision analysis and for two years served as the manager of the Decision Analysis Seminar Program at SRI International. Before joining SDG, Dr. Tani was part of a small firm in London that develops dealer support software for the foreign exchange and money markets.
Dr. Tani holds a PhD and an MS in engineering-economic systems and a BS in engineering science, all from Stanford University. He is a co-author of Handbook of Decision Analysis, released in 2013 by John Wiley & Sons. He is a Fellow in the Society of Decision Professionals and currently serves on the Board of that professional association.
Dr. Tani retired from full-time consulting in 2020. He remains connected to the firm as a member of the board of directors and he continues to support client engagements that present unique technical challenges due to complexity, dynamics, and uncertainty.
