Mary Lea Kirven


Mary Lea Kirven is chief operating officer of Strategic Decisions Group International LLC, the parent of SDG’s operating entities worldwide. Kirven has been responsible for the overall management of the company’s global operations for more than 25 years.

Kirven oversees SDG’s recruiting and retention efforts worldwide. She is a member of the SDG board of directors and chairs board committees on partner nomination, partner election, valuation, and compensation. She also leads the firm’s Menlo Park, Calif., office.

Kirven has 30 years of professional service experience, having served as a consultant, as well as holding various corporate management positions prior to becoming managing director and COO. As a consultant, Kirven worked on strategy development, corporate change management, and portfolio risk analysis for clients in the financial services, real estate, oil & gas, utility, and transportation industries. Before joining SDG in 1989, Kirven was employed by Bankers Trust, where she specialized in structuring and financing leveraged buyouts for companies in a broad range of industries, and was responsible for a $350 million loan portfolio of highly leveraged credits.

Kirven received a BA in economics from Smith College and an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. She has served on the board of directors and executive committee of Peninsula School, where she has served as vice president, treasurer, and secretary of the board. She has been actively involved in the sports and arts programs at Sacred Heart Prep and Crystal Springs Upland School.
